Alex's Birthday

This past Friday night was my friend Alex’s birthday. At 12:01 AM. on Friday morning, my friends and I carried Alex up to Miller Fountain and following the birthday tradition, threw him in the fountain. That night for his birthday, we went out to eat at a restaurant in the Quarry called Stoneworks. Alex likes dressing up in really nice clothes so in honor of his birthday, the men donned their best ties and the ladies, their best dress. I don’t think I have ever dressed up that nicely for a friend’s birthday in my life. The moment we stepped in the restaurant, our plans seemed to deteriorate. First of all, we called and made a reservation ahead of time. We had a large group and the restaurant staff assured us that not only could we get a table but that we could eat in a private room. Not only did this not happen, but our group had to sit outside in the cold. Not only did we have to sit outside, we had to do so without any heaters which the staff repeatedly assured us were coming. We ate our food despite the cold and left the restaurant where we then headed to a frozen yogurt place on Broadway. We made our way back to campus were we watched T.V. and talked for a couple of hours before calling it a night. I believe Alex had a great birthday. It was nice to go out and celebrate his birthday with all my other friends. It was a good night where I believe that we all became closer friends.

Whataburger Fun

Every so often my friends I and decide to go to Whataburger, but this is no ordinary outing for lunch or dinner. For this adventure begins at eleven o’clock at night. Usually, someone in the group will make the suggestion to go to Whataburger and usually, most everyone will agree. Depending on the time the suggestion was made, the group will wait for it to get later in the night. All good Texans know that Whataburger tastes better the later in the night you go. When the time arrives for us to make our way over to Broadway, we call our friends on Winn 1st and 3rd to see if they would like to join us. At least one or more of our friends will join us. We all pile into one of our cars. Most likely it is mine or my friend Joe’s car. We arrive at Whataburger and order our meals. Like normal people, we sit and eat our food while talking to each other. While at Whataburger, a tradition has arisen. When you order your food, you will get a number on a plastic table marker. We have a mission to take as many of these things as possible. We have over twenty eight table markers and to Matt Prendergast, they have become trophies. Finally, as we finish our meals, we pile back into our cars. This too has a tradition. It has been a tradition that as we drive back to campus, we must listen to Basshunter which is techno music. Our late night Whataburger runs have not only filled hungry collage student’s stomach but it has also given us a chance to relax with friends and look back on the days events.
